Industrial Hygiene Consulting
Industrial hygiene services provided by ASEI are performed under the oversight of Certified Industrial Hygienists by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). Each comprehensive Industrial Hygiene Survey is unique, and therefore tailored to specific work site needs. The survey may include any or all of the following services. These services may also be offered individually:
- Personal Air Monitoring
- Noise Monitoring and Hearing Conservation Programs
- Radiation Safety Programs and Monitoring
- Respiratory Protection Evaluation and Training
- Confined Space Programs
- Ergonomic Programs
- Hazard Communication Programs
- Indoor Air Quality
Personal Air Monitoring
Personal air monitoring is a fundamental tool of Industrial Hygiene. A well trained and experienced Industrial Hygienist can design a monitoring strategy that will accurately delineate exposure to airborne hazards in the workplace. ASEI's staff of Certified Industrial Hygienists have extensive experience in the art of personal air monitoring. Our air monitoring expertise can prevent common problems caused by poorly designed air monitoring strategies, such as a false sense of security in the presence of a hazard, or needless financial and emotional strain where no true hazard exists.
Noise Monitoring/ Hearing Conservation Programs
Excessive noise is one of the most prevalent occupational health hazards in industry today.
A complete Noise Assessment may include a sound level meter survey to determine high risk areas or processes and noise dosimetry to establish workers’ time-weighted average (TWA) exposure. ASEI can perform feasibility studies to determine the need for engineering controls and where hearing protection is required. We can also develop a comprehensive Hearing Conservation Program to assist you in complying with the OSHA Occupational Noise Standard (29 CFR 1910.95).
Radiation Safety
ASEI can apply our radiation expertise to our client’s specific issues. We have extensive experience with ionizing and non-ionizing radiation measurement and training and in establishing practical, effective radiation safety programs. We can provide the following radiation services:
-
Preparation and Management of NRC licenses
-
Personal Radiation Monitoring
-
Radiation Safety Training
-
Radon testing and remediation strategies
-
Hazard Assessments for ionizing radiation sources, radio-frequency radiation emitters, and lasers
-
Preparation of radiation source inventories
Respiratory Protection Evaluation and Training
ASEI can develop your respiratory protection program or assess your existing program. We can evaluate compliance with regulations and effectiveness of worker training. We will study the feasibility of engineering controls to reduce the airborne hazards to a level where a respiratory program is not required.
Confined Space Programs
Confined space incidents seldom happen but when they do, they tend to be catastrophic, often involving serious injury or death. This has prompted stringent OSHA requirements. These requirements include the use of permits, specialized training, environmental monitoring, rescue teams, and rescue equipment. ASEI has conducted more than 500 Confined Space Assessments and has experience in developing confined space programs and conducting specialized training.
Ergonomic Programs
Back injuries and CRD (Cumulative Trauma Disorders) account for more worker compensation dollars than all other workplace injuries or illnesses combined. Many of these hazards can be eliminated through simple design and process changes. Our Ergonomics Specialists will help you determine how to best minimize these types of injuries in your facility.
Hazard Communication Programs
Keeping up with regulatory changes, process changes and migrating employees is a task that cannot be neglected without compromising your Hazard Communication Program and/or your IIPP. Workers who are unfamiliar with the hazards in their specific environment have a greater possibility of injury or accident. We can help you develop a program, update your existing program, conduct training, and keep you informed about the latest regulatory changes that may affect your organization.
